Sandler Pelted With Razzie Nominations

Up for Worst Actor and Actress Razzies - Adam Sandler in Jack and Jill

If he decides to attend the Golden Raspberry awards ceremony in April, Adam Sandler could be in for a busy night.

With no less than 11 personal nominations, including ones in both the Worst Actor and Actress category, his risible effort Jack and Jill tops the list with a total of 12 nods, including Worst Picture, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay.  Clearly a film with not a lot going for it.

He’s not the only actor up for the Worst Actress award: Martin Lawrence joins him with a nomination for both Big Mommas and Like Father, Like Son.  Curiously, Sarah Palin finds her way into the category as well, for playing herself in Sarah Palin: The Undefeated.

Teen favourite, Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part One, is spattered with seven nominations, including Worst Screen Couple, Worst Ensemble Cast and Worst Actor and Actress nods for Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart.  Maybe their fees for the film will go towards acting lessons …….

Unexpected names creeping onto the list include Nicholas Cage, who receives only his fourth and fifth Razzie nominations for the unholy trinity that is Drive Angry, Season Of The Witch and Trespass.  Why on earth Al Pacino ever agreed to be in Jack And Jill is a mystery, but he’s punished for it with a Worst Supporting Actor nod – for playing himself!  And another past Oscar winner, Nicole Kidman, makes the cut for Worst Supporting Actress in Just Go With It.

This year’s Razzies have been moved from their usual Oscar eve slot to April Fools’ Day, so watch out for the winners on a future edition of The Coops Review.  In the meantime, it’s probably safe to assume that there’ll be much less hype, fewer frocks and a lot of no-shows on the night!
