Alexander Payne’s Nebraska arrives at the London Film Festival with something of a reputation, primarily because of its award-winning star turn from Bruce Dern. But don’t be deceived. There is much more to this compassionate but unflinching portrait of social and mental decline than one single piece of acting.
This time round, Payne has concentrated on being the director, handing over writing duties to Bob Nelson, who turns in a perceptive and frequently humorous script.
And if you’re getting the impression that I liked it, you’d be absolutely right. Read why in my review for Filmoria.co.uk, http://www.filmoria.co.uk/2013/10/nebraska-review/
Nebraska is screened at the London Film Festival on 12, 13 and 14 October and is released nationwide on 6 December.
