Director David Wain has described his latest film, They Came Together, as “a deliberately terrible romantic comedy.”  He must’ve had his tongue firmly in his cheek at the time.  It’s a rom-com, sure, but it isn’t terrible, deliberately or otherwise.  Because it’s a parody, taking every single romantic cliché in the book, adding a few well-chosen cameos and finishing it off with a dash of soap opera.

But, while he’s chosen a familiar and large target, there are times when Wain well and truly misses the mark.  Find out why on my review for
