Director David Wain has described his latest film, They Came Together, as “a deliberately terrible romantic comedy.” He must’ve had his tongue firmly in his cheek at the time. It’s a rom-com, sure, but it isn’t terrible, deliberately or otherwise. Because it’s a parody, taking every single romantic cliché in the book, adding a few well-chosen cameos and finishing it off with a dash of soap opera.
But, while he’s chosen a familiar and large target, there are times when Wain well and truly misses the mark. Find out why on my review for Filmoria.co.uk. http://www.filmoria.co.uk/2014/09/they-came-together-review-2/
They Came Together is released in UK cinemas on Friday, 5 September.
